Naprosyn Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Generic Name: Lovastatin

NAPROXEN (Naprosyn®, EC Naprosyn®, Naprelan®, Anaprox®, Anaprox® DS, Aleve®) is an anti-inflammatory drug. It is used to treat pain and inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and juvenile (childhood) arthritis. Naproxen is also effective in treating other mild to moderate pain such as including menstrual pain, headache, toothache, and temporarily reduces fever. Naproxen belongs to a class of drugs known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Other members of this class such as include ibuprofen (Motrin), indomethacin (Indocin), nabumetone (Relafen) and several others. It works by reducing the levels of prostaglandins, chemicals that are responsible for pain, fever and inflammation.

Naprosyn Dosage

• The usual adult dosage is 250-500 mg twice daily using regular naproxen tablets.
• The usual dose for Naprelan controlled release tablets is 750 to 1000 mg given once daily.
• For EC-Naprosyn, the usual dose is 375-500 mg twice daily. It should be given with food to reduce upset stomach.

Uses of Naprosyn

• Naproxen is used to reduce pain, inflammation, and stiffness that may caused by many conditions such as including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, ankylosing spondylitis, injury, tendinitis, and bursitis.
• It is also used to reduce fever and to treat minor aches and pain that may occur due to the common cold or flu.
• Naproxen is also sometimes used to treat Paget's disease of bone (a condition in which the bones become abnormally thick, fragile, and misshapen) and Bartter's syndrome (a condition in which the body does not absorb enough potassium, causing muscle cramping and weakness and other symptoms).

Side Effects of Naprosyn

If you are taking Naprosyn, then discuss the side effects of Naprosyn with your doctor and if you feel any change in intensity, then tell your doctor immediately. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Naprosyn. Side effects of Naprosyn may include:

• swelling due to fluid retention
• constipation
• skin eruptions
• difficult or labored breathing
• ringing in ears
• dizziness
• nausea
• drowsiness
• headache
• itching
• heartburn
• bruising

Warnings and precautions before taking Naprosyn:

• If you have kidney disease, liver disease, poorly controlled diabetes, stomach problems such as includes bleeding, ulcers and heart disease, high blood pressure, swelling, dehydration, blood disorders, bleeding or clotting problems, asthma, tell your doctor or pharmacist.
• If you are allergic to naproxen, aspirin or other NSAIDs such as includes ibuprofen and ketoprofen any medications for pain or fever, or any other medications,then you should tell your doctor or pharmacist.
• If you are taking Naprosyn medication, after taking you may feel dizzy, drowsy, or depressed. So do not perform any activities where you require more alertness such as drive a car or operate machinery.
• You should be avoided alcohol and tobacco, because this medicine may cause stomach bleeding.

Drug Interaction:- If you are taking certain drugs with Naprosyn, then it may be increased, decreased, or altered the effects of Naprosyn. So first consult to your doctor before combining Naprosyn medicine with the following drugs.

• Naproxen sodium (Aleve, Anaprox)
• Sulfa drugs such as the antibiotics Bactrim and Septra
• Beta blockers such as the blood-pressure drug Tenormin
• Probenecid (Benemid)
• Blood-thinning drugs such as Coumadin
• Phenytoin (Dilantin)
• Oral diabetes drugs such as Diabinese and Micronase
• Furosemide (Lasix)
• Lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid)
• Methotrexate
• ACE inhibitors such as the blood-pressure drug Zestril

Overdose

After taking Naprosyn, If you feel that overdose is suspected, then contact with your doctor immediately. Symptoms of Naprosyn overdose may includes:

• nausea
• seizures
• vomiting
• blurred vision
• stomach pain
• ringing in the ears
• dizziness
• drowsiness
• headache
