Cymbalta Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Generic Name: Duloxetine hydrochloride

Cymbalta is a brand-name for a drug known as duloxetine. Cymbalta (Duloxetine Hydrochloride) is a new antidepressent and very effective. It is used to affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and may cause depression. Cymbalta medication works by restoring the balance of two kinds of natural substances such as includes neurotransmitters known as serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain, thereby improving mood and feelings of well-being. Duloxetine belongs to a group of medicines known as selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SSNRIs).

Cymbalta has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, judging it a safe and effective treatment for major depressive disorder.

Cymbalta Dosage

• For the major depression, the usual dose is 40 milligrams and you can take as one 20-milligram capsule twice a day and if you are taking dosage 60 milligrams, then you can tak 60-milligram capsule once a day or as a 30-milligram capsule twice a day.
• For diabetic peripheral neuropathy, the recommended dose is 60 milligrams taken once daily.

Uses of Cymbalta

• Cymbalta is used to treat major depressive disorder (MDD) and for the pain that are associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

Side Effects of Cymbalta

If you are taking Cymbalta, then discuss the side effects of Cymbalta with your doctor and if you feel any change in intensity, then tell your doctor immediately. Side effects of Cymbalta may include:

• sleepiness
• weakness
• sweating
• diarrhea
• urinary difficulties
• dry mouth
• fatigue
• headache
• insomnia
• nausea
• sexual difficulties
• dizziness

Warnings and precautions before taking Cymbalta:

• If you are taking Cymbalta medicine, then you may feel sleepy, drowsy or dizzy. So do not perform any activity where you require more alertness such as drive or operate machinery.
• You should not stop taking this medicine suddenly, Because it may cause withdrawal symptoms such as including dizziness, pins and needles sensations, nausea, difficulty sleeping, intense dreams, headache, tremor, agitation or anxiety.
• You should not be used this medication if you have certain medical conditions such as including severe kidney disease, glaucoma (uncontrolled narrow-angle). consult your doctor or pharmacist, before using this medicine.

Drug Interaction:- If you are taking certain drugs with Cymbalta, then it may be increased, decreased, or altered the effects of Cymbalta. So first consult to your doctor before combining Cymbalta medicine with the following drugs:

• Antibiotics known as quinolones, such as Cipro, Floxin, and Trovan
• Antidepressants known as tricyclics, including Elavil, Pamelor, and Tofranil
• Antidepressants that raise serotonin levels, such as Effexor, Paxil, Prozac, and Zoloft
• Antipsychotic medication known as phenothiazines, including Compazine, Prolixin, Serentil, Thorazine, and Trilafon
• Flecainide (Tambocor)
• Fluvoxamine
• Propafenone (Rythmol)
• Quinidine

Overdose

After taking Cymbalta, If you feel that overdose is suspected, then contact with your doctor immediately. Symptoms of Cymbalta overdose may includes:

• nausea
• vomiting
• tremor
• agitation
• seizures
• drowsiness
• hyperactivity
• enlarged pupils.
